What an EGR fault looks like

  • Rough idle or hesitation
  • Black smoke from the exhaust
  • Poor fuel economy
  • The engine management light, sometimes with limp mode

The EGR valve sends some exhaust gas back into the engine to cut emissions. When it sticks or clogs, the engine runs badly. Read our guide to exhaust gas recirculation.
